A new year and new leaders for the Huws Gray Alliance as Rhyl's cup commitments enabled gap Connahs Quay to leapfrog the Lillywhites albeit having played a game more than their coast rivals. The Deesiders returned to the summit by beating Llandudno by four goals to nil on Friday, which included a fifteenth league goal of the season for Gary O'Toole.
Porthmadog spurned the opportunity to move into second place as they
were surprisingly beaten at home by a Penrhyncoch side which moved into sixth
place thanks to goals from Mark Gornall and Mark Egan as well as Stuart Fraser's
eighth goal of the season.
Both Buckley and Cefn Druids consolidated their top six positions and
narrowed the gap on third place Port as they beat Penycae and Conwy respectively.
Andy Moran was amongst the scorers at Globe Way whilst Robbie James' late
effort was enough to clinch the three points for Druids at Y Morfa.
Flint Town United moved into seventh position at the expense of
struggling Llangefni thanks to goals from Stuart Carroll, Phil Lloyd and
Jonathan Rush.
Next week's fixtures see Buckley leap into third place if they win away
to Llandudno on Friday night, whilst the top two will be confident of victory
as they both travel to face lowly Llangefni and Penycae respectively.
Porthmadog will hope to bounce back from Saturday's disappointment, but
face a tough challenge as they travel to face a Cefn side who've won their last
three league matches.
Down at the bottom, Llanrhaeadr host Ruthin in a battle to avoid being
dragged into the relegation battle, and rock-bottom Rhos welcome Penrhyncoch to
Ponciau Banks looking for their first victory since the end of August.
In the remaining matches, Flint travel to Caersws with only a point
separating the sides, whilst there's only a single goal separating Conwy United
and visitors Guilsfield.
