Huws Gray Alliance Review

With Rhyl's visit to Penycae postponed due to frosty weather conditions in the Wrexham area - which also saw the Rhos Aelwyd v Penrhynoch match called off - reigning champions gap Connahs Quay extended their lead at the top of the Huws Gray Alliance to four points thanks to a comfortable three-nil away win in Llangefni. A Lee Hughes own goal and Craig Jones struck in the first half before Jamie Petrie added to Llanegfni's woes late on.

Buckley Town moved up to third place on Friday night with a good win at Llandudno. Two goals in two minutes early in the second half from Mike Burke - his twelfth of the season - and Matty Hughes did the damage, and although Lee Thomas made it a nervous last fifteen for the Bucks, a late third from Neil Wynne sealed the three points.

Following the surprising news that promising youngster Jamie McDaid had left the club to sign for hometown club Caernarfon Town in the Welsh Alliance, Porthmadog looked like receiving a boost by reclaiming third spot when Marcus Orlik's eight goal of the season gave them an early lead away to Cefn Druids. However Warren Ducket equalisedjust before half-time, and things got worse for Port in the second period as Orlik was badly injured before Andrew Swarbrick grabbed the home side's winner in the 68th minute to inflict a costly second successive defeat for Gareth Parry's side - a result which lifted Cefn back into the title race.

Flint made it two out of two in 2012 and climbed to sixth position thanks to Chris Riley's first half effort at Caersws, whilst a fisrt half double from recent loan sign signing John Owen was enough for Conwy to overcome Guilsfield at Y Morfa. That made it 11 goals for the season for the young Bangor City striker who scored nine times in an earlier loan spell with Llangefni.

In the weekend's remaining fixture, Jack Crompton's second half effort clinched a valuable away victory for Ruthin Town at Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant - a win that lifted them five points clear of the bottom three.

Weather-permitting of course, both main title contenders will host matches on Friday night - Rhyl welcome Llandudno to Belle Vue whilst gap Connahs's Quay take on bottom of the table Rhos Aelwyd on Deeside.
