Williams Roberts Acquisition

We are pleased to announce our latest acquisition as William Roberts Timber Merchants who operated from two sites based in Menai Bridge and Dolgellau.

History

William Roberts & Co Ltd was established between 1810 and 1820 by the well known Davies family of Treborth. Davies Bros were general merchants selling iron, steel, gunpowder and timber, which was imported directly to the Company's own quay in Menai Bridge.

The business was given its present name when purchased in the mid 1860's by William Roberts and became a Limited Company when it was again sold in 1927.The name was retained to accentuate the continuity and quality of service. At this time the decision was made to specialise in Timber.

The company is one of the oldest surviving independent Timber Importers in the U.K and until the early 1970's, when vessels became too large to negotiate the straits, continued to import directly to Menai Bridge.

In the early 1980's the company expanded and opened a depot at Dolgellau to service south Gwynedd.
